Big Business & Web 2.0 Monday, September 17, 2007
Forrester Research have conducted a survey to better understand whether the fuss about web2.0 is being borne out inside corporate America.
When I saw this, several things struck me
- the survey was answered by IT decision-makers; it doesn't necessarily follow they are best placed to judge how much business value their users get from the technology
- there may be use of these tools within the business that IT decision-makers are simply unaware of (despite their efforts to preclude use of Saas/Web based services), since most can be accessed/used by users without IT needing to interfere and don't require big IT projects to implement
- perhaps IT decision-makers didn't value them simply because they didn't require big IT projects and large expenditure, or wished to under-value because they "weren't invented here"
- what are the IT decision makers to educate the business on how such tools might provide business benefit
Then again, large corporates aren't usually quick to embrace new tools and so perhaps the survey timing is premature.
